Poverty is Prevalent and Marked by Numerous Threats to Child Development

The child poverty rate across the United States is about 18 percent, though it can range greatly from state to state. Jamie Hanson, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, discusses the measurable effects of poverty on children’s development and academic achievement, as well as the many effects that we still cannot measure.
